A Study of Associative Evidential Reasoning
Evidential reasoning is cast as the problem of simplifying the evidence-hypothesis relation and constructing combination formulas that possess certain testable properties. Important classes of evidence as identifiers, annihilators, and idempotents and their roles in determining binary operations on intervals of reals are discussed. The appropriate way of constructing formulas for combining evid...
متن کاملEvidential Reasoning about Motives: a Case Study
Motives play an important role at every stage of a criminal investigation. They can be used to search for an explanation of the crime (why was this person killed?), to identify a suspect (who would have killed this person for this reason), and to persuade a jury of a suspect’s guilt (this motive explains why this person committed this crime). We have previously developed an account of motivatio...
متن کاملEvidential Reasoning
We consider the problem of inference on the basis of observations. Suppose Alice has two coins, F (with probability 1/2 of landing heads) and B (with probability 3/4 of landing heads). She chooses a coin, tosses it, and it lands heads. How likely was the coin to be F? How likely was it to be B? Suppose she tosses the coin 100 times, and it lands heads every time. How likely was it to be F? How ...
متن کاملClassification with Evidential Associative Rules
Mining database provides valuable information such as frequent patterns and especially associative rules. The associative rules have various applications and assets mainly data classification. The appearance of new and complex data support such as evidential databases has led to redefine new methods to extract pertinent rules. In this paper, we intend to propose a new approach for pertinent rul...
متن کاملSubjective Evidential Reasoning
This paper describes a framework for combining and assessing subjective evidence from different sources. The approach is based on the DempsterShafer belief theory, but instead of using Dempster’s rule we introduce a new rule called the consensus operator that is based on statistical inference. We show how this framework can be applied to subjective evidential reasoning.
